This stroke work design by Maureen McNaughton is a wonderful starter project for new painters. We will be doing repetition of strokes to reinforce the loading of paint and pressure on the brush to achieve a finished project you’ll be proud to take home and say “I did it”. This is the second in a series of local London
landmarks. Enjoy the challenge of painting
unusual architecture of the courthouse.
Built in 1830, it was modelled after Malahide Castle
near Dublin, Ireland.

The procedure for painting watercolour crystal is
the art of seeing! You might be seeing what is inside
the crystal or what is beyond it since it is totally
transparent. Learn to look at the total image of
cut glass whether it is simple or ornate and
be able to determine what colours to use in the
execution of the painting. Reflections determine the
end result! You will use my design of the glass but
you have the creative licence to position the glass
and flower and use the lace of your choice to your composition.
Have fun with no panic!

Kelly Hoernig designed this Victorian style rose.
This is a really good piece for those of you
who want practice in floating.
Very few brushes are used and it would be a wonderful
memory box project.
The cream colour of this rose could be changed to create
another shade of your favourite rose.
Kelly painted her project on a coffee filter box (octagon shape)
but my project piece was painted on a square box (6” x 6”).

This is an original design of mine. The subject matter is
a portion of my flower garden housing a large hosta plant.
You will ink the design at home and we will do
the painting in class.
I chose a photo album for my surface so that I
can keep track of the different varieties of hostas
that I have and other gardening information.
This would make a good note card design.

This is an excellent project to develop and
practise brush control.
If you are not using the project piece available,
you may choose any piece of your choice.
While the design is circular, it can be placed on
a square or rectangular piece.
We will create an appropriate leaf or ribbon border

This Mary Owens design was done on card stock
with a sleigh propped against a wall with a basket of
pine greens beside it.
The addition of texture snow or paste adds another
painting oak leaves, poplar leaves and maple leaves.
The oak and maple are painted in autumn shades while
the poplar is green. Maureen’s piece was painted on a
placemat made by Coyote Woodworks.
I used a plaque for my project piece: however,
each leaf design could be painted on separate surfaces
(e.g. Coasters, boxes, on matboard and put into a frame, etc, etc, etc.)

MAUREEN MCNAUGHTON PACKETS.
You will see from the class listings that you are required to purchase a pattern packet for all of the Maureen McNaughton classes. This comes as a result of serious copy right infringement by a large company that was caught copying and selling her packets as originals. On legal advice she has to stick to the letter of the law, and that is that each person painting a project must have their own packet. We have appreciated the gifts we have had from Maureen in the past, with her permission , we were able to photocopy notes and line drawings. We say a big thank you, and will continue to support the rules of copyright.
